FALL - Safety and Repair

It is time for seasonal maintenance on your home.  The daytime temperature has finally dropped below 100 deg and the nights are pefect for opening the windows and letting in the fresh air.  This is the perfect time to clean those windows, wash off the screens, vacuum out and lubricate the tracks.

Your roof has been ignored all summer because it was just too hot to inspect and repair any dammage.  Now with the weather nice, climb up and do a thorough inspection.  Has the monsoon season caused any damage?  Do you have any missing or torn shingles, broken or slipped tiles.  Clean any debris off the roof and gutters.  Patch any holes from flying debris or our feathered friends.

With the weather getting nice and chilly at night, you will want to light up the fireplace.  Take the time to inspect the flue carefully as birds and rodents will sometimes build their nest in the flue and create a fire hazzard.  A quick inspection will also remind you to open that flue before you start your first fire of the season.

This is a good time to test your smoke detectors and change out the batteries.  It won't be long before you turn on your furnace, have a fire in the fireplace and don't forget the Christmas tree is just around the corner.  A quick check of your fire detection system could be a life saver.  Don't forget the fire extinguisher, they don't last forever, they loose their charge and have to be refilled or replaced.  You should have at least two in your home, one in the garage and one in the kitchen.
